It's been quite a year for actress Jessica Chastain with the success of several films including The Help and the hit of the Cannes Film Festival, The Tree of Life. Now Chastain has been cast to take on a daunting role: she is set to play Princess Diana in the upcoming biopic, Caught In Flight, directed by Downfall's Olivier Hirschbiegel.
The film centers around Diana's closely guarded relationship with Pakistani heart surgeon Hasnat Kahn, regarded by some to be the true love of her life. Diana dated Kahn after her divorce from Prince Charles. The pair had ended their romance before her death in 1997.
Chastain has a challenge ahead of her. Not only will she need to master the accent and demeanor of the late princess, but Diana is not cast in a particular favorable light in the film. The script, written by Steven Jeffreys, portrays the former princess as a damaged person who stalks the doctor after he ends the affair. This is the perfect recipe for Chastain to show her range as an actress and possibly nab a Golden Globe, perhaps even an Academy Award.
