Such Great Heights: A Fall Shoe Primer

By Devon Scott

The fashion world is being teased on these hot summer days with a few hints of what to look out for this fall. Namely, what will adorn the feet of fashionistas the world over.

Height appears to be the name of the game as the weather shifts back toward a bit more comfortable climate.

An example are these Fendi two-toned "Fishbone" platforms ($965 - Bergdorf Goodman). The heels and bottoms are sturdy enough to be able to make a statement in the workplace ("speak softly and wear a big shoe").  Pair them with a work-friendly black dress or a fitted blouse, pencil skirt and some fun gold jewelry.

If you're reaching for a little more of the Victorian feel, try the Alexandre Birman lace-up booties ($750 - Shop Saks Fifith Avenue). Put these on, add some tweed capris, a long-sleeved striped top (also a trend to watch) and go have a warm apple cider on the veranda.

Abstract platforms are also quite popular for the fall. Alexander McQueen gives the height plus the show-stop with these platform suede peep toe booties (available for pre-order at Saks Fifth Avenue- $1050). Printed or solid tights and a sweater dress would look chic with these booties.

Finally, if height isn't your thing, tall boots are quite en vogue for the leaves falling and so forth.

Stuart Weitzman is leading the campaign with several different styles, including these black, over-the-knee boots ($595 - Shop Bloomingdales). Pair them with skinny jeans or a shorter skirt. They are just perfect for the afternoon fox hunt (which could, in actuality, mean a trip to Bloomingdale's).

Happy hunting!
