Best of 2011~ Fashion Wrap Up Red Carpet Designer Favorites

2011 was filled with stunning red carpet looks. Tons of celebrities dressed to impress in fabulous designer ensembles for movie premieres, charity galas and award shows. From Marchesa to J. Mendel, we've rounded up our six favorite fashion designers whose looks ruled the red carpet this past year. Here we go!

Valentino We wouldn't call it a comeback, but maybe just a rebirth for the brand. Seeing Anne Hathaway walk the red carpet with the man himself at the Oscars set tone that Valentino was going to be the must-have red carpet designer label this year.

Marchesa 2011 was another wonderful year of fashion for design duo Georgina Chapman and Keren Creig. Marchesa held its first runway show during New York Fashion Week since launching the brand in 2007. Their Spring 2012 was a magical collection filled with sparkle, details and drama. We knew 2011 would be filled with Marchesa moments when we saw Olivia Wilde hit the red carpet in a gorgeous, glittering ball gown at the Golden Globes.

Elie Saab There's no denying that the gowns created by the Lebanese born designer captivates audiences with dazzling touches of sparkle. Elie Saab's use of lighter than air fabrics, such as silk and tulle, are simply enchanting. Mila Kunis was a red carpet favorite overnight after wearing the floor-sweeping, lavender Elie Saab lace gown to the Oscars. Surprisingly when Taylor Swift walked the red carpet at the Billboard Music Awards in May wearing a stunning, strapless metallic beaded dress from the designer, it was a take your breath away moment.

Prabal Gurung Star power is one way to describe the fashions seen from Prabal Gurung. A range of stylish actresses love his designs including Sarah Jessica Parker and Amanda Seyfried. His Fall 2011 collection was one of most anticipated of the season. The Singapore born designer blew everyone out of their stilettos with his colorful collection filled with vamp and edge. Newcomer Jennifer Lawrence wore a single-shoulder, white silk gown by the designer to the DGA awards and was deemed instantly a stylish star to watch.

J. Mendel There were many defining moments for the designer this year. At the Golden Globes, Glee star Dianna Agron was a vision channeling old Hollywood glamor in a beautiful pink, strapless gown from the designer. In February the brand's Fall 2011 collection took a turn showcasing a mostly dark and ominous collection which also included a bit of an 1980s edginess. Mendel proved he has what it takes to offer ladylike, oh-so-pretty ensembles to harsher almost goth like creations with ease. His creations a varied but never confuse the overall brand identity.

Alexander McQueen 2011 was the year of McQueen, and it can be summed up in two words-- Royal Wedding. In April, when Kate Middleton emerged from her Rolls Royce at Westminster Abbey in the stunning custom made ivory, satin, V-neck gown with lace overlay, it was a moment of epic fashionable proportions. Through the year we saw many more fabulous designs on the red carpet from the brand's Creative Director, Sarah Burton. McQueen's Spring 2012 runway show was one of the most anticipated collections of Paris Fashion Week, and the collection did not disappoint. It's safe to say that McQueen and the Duchess of Cambridge were the reason that London was named the Fashion Capital of the world in 2011.
