Yesterday it was announced that Drew Barrymore had delivered her daughter, Olive Barrymore Kopelman, on September 26th. This is the first child for Drew and her husband, Will Kopelman who were married this past June, just six months after announcing their engagement.
There is something vaguely familiar about the name Olive. In 1999 the CGI animated television special Olive, the Other Reindeer debuted and chronicled the story of a sweet Jack Russell Terrier named Olive (voiced by Drew Barrymore), based off Vivian Walsh's 1997 children's book about her real life Jack Russell terrier.
The story begins as Olive returns home one day to find her owner, Tim, packing up all of the Christmas decorations and tells Olive that there will not be a Christmas this year.
Eventually, Olive finds out that the reason is that Blizten, one of Santa's reindeer, is injured and cannot fly. The radio reported that Santa hopes he can make the Christmas run with "all of the other reindeer", however Olive hears, "Olive the other reindeer," and believes Santa is talking about her to help save Christmas. Upon hearing this news, Olive sets out for an adventure to the North Pole to help save Christmas.
Along the way she meets many friends including a penguin named Martini (personally my favorite character) and an evil Mailman who is mad at Santa for always being on the "Naughty List". The Mailman is determined to make trouble for Olive and do anything he can to stop her from saving Christmas. In the end, Olive saves Christmas and all the presents are delivered in time.
When I heard that Drew Barrymore had named her daughter Olive I immediately thought of the cute little cartoon special. It will be interesting to hear if there is a story behind the name Olive or if it's just purely coincidence.
What do you guys think? Have you seen Olive, the Other Reindeer?
