In England, it seems the rain never stops. In some countries, this may lead to numerous fashion faux pas. But in typical British style, the English accept the rain with the famous stiff upper lip, keep calm carry on attitude. As a result, they wear the quintessential English Wellington boots fondly known as the “Wellie” with pride. Only in England could they pull this off!
The Wellie has evolved through the years from the standard green Farmers’ version to a fashion statement onto itself. As they say – necessity is the mother of invention. Makers like Hunter have taken on board top designers to revamp the traditional Wellie to create an edgy fashionable look that makes them both practical and stylish.
Following the launch of its flagship showrooms on Carnaby St. in London and 7th Ave New York in 2009, Hunter announced a collaboration to produce a limited edition black Wellington boot with Jimmy Choo featuring his signature embossed crocodile pattern including gold rivets and a leopard print lining. Another limited edition boot was launched in 2011. With a price tag of £255 pounds this may seem a lot for a Wellie boot but keep in mind some things never go out of style. This item will be a timeless capsule piece must have for any wardrobe.
Hunter Wellies are of such high quality, they have been given the coveted “by appointment to the Royal Family” meaning the Royals love these Wellies. And with its new Fashion range Hunter has come up with some fab designs to take you from festival to rainy city streets. Check out the Carnaby Snake design on trend animal print or the glamorous Original Tall Gloss in colours ranging from traditional green to flashing hot pink. Wear these fashionable boots with a skirt or dress in this seasons A/W florals for a look that is fab or as the English would say “blooming brilliant” and practical at the same time. This is a country classic look to revamp your outer wear wardrobe following this season’s countryside chic trend following in the footsteps of The Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton along with the Queen herself and Prince Charles!
And don’t forget, the Wellie socks and cuffs --also available from Hunter-- to complete the look and give it even more vamp! Go for faux animal prints, bold stripes or chunky cable knit for added texture and glam. So British and so over the top! Get into those puddles, splash around and go blinging in the rain!
