Metallics

London Fashion Week Spring 2013 RTW: Burberry Prorsum

This was not a typical Burberry Prorsum show.

With Burberry, the fashion world has come to expect some signature looks, including the khaki and olive-colored trench coats and the signature plaid that has defined the label for decades.

At London Fashion Week Monday, the world got an entirely new view of Burberry: bright metallics, bold colors, and nary a speck of plaid in site (excluding the walls of the venue).

While the tone of the show was largely what people have come to expect from Creative Director, Christopher Bailey (mournful music as models strutted the catwalk in trenches, trying to stave off the presumably upcoming rain showers), there were many noticeable differences.

Metallic fabrics marked many of the pieces, including the Burberry signature trench coat.  The trench itself was turned into a cropped version as well.

Models also wore cropped and full capes. They wore one and two-piece bathing suits and even a refined version of the so-called “bootie short.”

The menswear also got a make-over with models wearing bright blues and pinks with trousers.

The show ended with models coming out, a handful of each wearing the classic trench updated in the bright color palette of the show.

Bailey also kept the styling simple, opting to have many of the models keep their hair under the coats.

Overall, it was a large departure and a welcome surprise at the same time.

Fashion Blogger Look of the Day~ Chloe Lauter

What She Wore: Chloe is a big fan of anything shiny and that means she loves metallics! We cannot argue with her because we adore the trend too. Chloe paired this shimmering, magenta and gold Lulu's midi skirt with a billowy cream colored Forever 21 top featuring butterfly sleeves.

She added vintage sling backs and jewels to complete her her striking look.

Celebrities Go for Gold on the Red Carpet

The Summer Olympic games are underway in London and the medals are being awarded to the finest athletes in the world. We noticed a trend on the red carpet these past few days -- a golden trend to be exact. While the althetes in London complete for gold, celebs like Zooey Deschanel, Jessica Biel and Krysten Ritter have been spotted donning the metallic hue. See how these Hollywood starlets sported the trend.

Zooey Deschanel- The New Girl star attended the FOX All-Star Party in West Hollywood wearing this metallic gold, sleeveless Paula Ka cocktail dress featuring bow detailing at the waist. Zooey added black Miu Miu pumps to complete her look.

Jessica Biel- Aside from the engaged star's dazzling diamond and platinum ring, Jessica wore this sparkling, gold sequined Oscar de la Renta dress to the Total Recall photo call at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles. She added nude, ankle-wrapped Brian Atwood pumps and Arunashi bangles to complete her gorgeous look.

Krysten Ritter- The dark haired beauty glittered in this gold, short sleeved Farah Kahn dress at the TCA Summer Party. She accessorized her radiant look with metallic Jimmy Choo peep-toe heels, a Kotur clutch and House of Lavande jewels.

London Fashion Week RTW: Jonathan Saunders

Bold patterns collided with loud colors at the Jonathan Saunders 2012 Fall runway presentation. While that may sound a bit overwhelming, it actually proved to be quite smart and beautiful.

Sharply tailored jackets with high stiff collars and equestrian inspired pieces mixed with full-flared skirts on a palette of high-contrast brights and metallic jewel tones.

Long-sleeve shirt dresses, pleated skirts and cozy striped sweaters added sportiness to the collection.

Saunders used a plethora of textures including the embossed effect on coats, jackets and skirts that looked like geometric patterns of grids and triangles.
