Spring 2012 Collection

Paris Fashion Week: Chanel

Normally in fashion, a runway means one thing. That was until Chanel landed at SS12’s Paris Couture Fashion week. Lagerfeld’s catwalk was a purpose built life-sized replica of the inside of a plane. The dim-lit stage was even complete with exit signs and air hostesses (although they were there to cater the guests with champagne rather than hot towels and peanuts).

Collection wise, one word can sum it up: blue. Mr. Lagerfeld stated that there were more than 150 different shades of blue in the collection, which featured around 60 outfits. Think every shade of blue every imaginable; that is the SS12 collection.

“It’s my blue period,” joked Mr. Lagerfeld, who explained that his cat’s eyes had inspired this runway.

Lagerfeld aimed for the dresses to have the slouch attitude of jeans, so he created slim, drop-waist dresses. Each and every model walked with her hands in the pockets of her dress or skirt.

The show finished in a stereotypically Chanel show-stopping manner -- by Karl Lagerfeld emerging from the cockpit.

Sneak Peek: Lara Stone for Calvin Klein Spring Summer 2012

One of our favorite collections from New York Fashion WeekCalvin Klein, recently released images of their sexy Spring 2012 ad campaign.

The ads feature supermodel Lara Stone, representing the brand for the fourth consecutive time. Shot by photographers Mert and Marcus on location on St. Barth’s Guanahani Beach, the portraits feature Lara posed topless and seductively stretched across rocks in brightly colored jeans from the brand.

Male model Matthew Terry is also seen cozied up to the Dutch model adding mass sex appeal a characteristic for which the brand is known.

The 26-year old is also featured in a sharp white blazer with a pair of strappy sandals from the Calvin Klein Collection, showing off her bronzed  body and toned legs.

First Look: Chanel's Spring 2012 Nail Polish Collection

Chanel delivers a sweet treat for spring! The design house unveiled its Spring 2012 nail color collection, featuring three candy-colored shades including: April (a glossy fuchsia hue), May (a punchy pink hue) and June (a tangerine hue). Unfortunately, the pearly white polish color that the models wore on the runway will not be available for purchase; it was created solely for the show.

The nail polish collection will launch in January and will be available online at Chanel.com and Chanel beauty counters.

Paris Fashion Week: Valentino

Dreamy and ultimately feminine, Valentino delivered romantic elegance for their Spring 2012 collection. Designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli created beautiful ensembles that combined womanly sophistication and girlish innocence.

Piccioli stated, "Fashion is a dream, and in this moment we need dreams," and a dream of a collection it is, probably one of the best the duo has turned out yet.

Embroidered lace gowns appeared on the runway, one more breathtaking than the previous. They were adorned with exquisite, delicate embellished details.

Stunning, sheer and strapless dresses were presented in a perfect spring color palette of beige, white, blush pink and powder blue. The color palette would not be complete without signature Valentino hues of black and red which made a bold statement for confident spring looks.

A surprise for spring came in the way of leather dresses, some with chiffon detailing, adding a touch of edge to the ladylike silhouettes.

Long sleeved dresses, which hit just above the ankle with hand-painted floral prints, added a slightly folksy feel to the collection.

Evening wear presented the strongest part of the collection, complete with gorgeous red-carpet-worthy gowns with puffed shoulders and long sleeves. Dresses we are dying to see on red carpet darlings like Keira Knightly and Anne Hathaway.

Paris Fashion Week: Yves Saint Laurent

Yves Saint Laurent's Spring 2012 collection featured rich jewel tones and sleek silhouettes. The continued rumors that Stefano Pilati is leaving the company seemed to have no affect on the strong presentation that was delivered at the lavish Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild.

Sharply tailored jacquard trousers and structured coats, menswear inspired pieces echoing the days of YSL's past, paraded down the runway.

Femininity presented itself in the way of sexy, plunging necklines on halter tops, ruffle detailing on blouses and onthe hemlines of skirts.

For evening wear, sheer black gowns with daring, deep cuts in the front shimmered and sparkled with gold embellishments. We're sure to see a few of these gowns on the red carpet.

Pilati did not disappoint with accessories either. The shoes alone will be on the YSL lady's must have list for spring, including ankle wrap flats, gold-plated loafers & cap toe pumps.

Paris Fashion Week: Givenchy

Dramatic ruffles, form-fitting silhouettes and monochromatic colors . . . this is a romantic Givenchy collection with an edge. Ricardo Tisci took us on an exotic underwater journey with the Spring 2012 line. It was quite the opposite of the preceding parade of prints.

Tisci took his oceanic inspiration to new modern heights using eel skin, bold statement necklaces made of shark's teeth and structured jackets with cuts reminiscent of fins.

Sheer flouncy fabrics, plenty of peplums in shades of pink, nude and white on ensembles with sharp cuts made for brilliant feminine, yet strong looks.

Sleeveless flowing jackets featuring satin trims and silk blouses topped slim cut pants taking a modern spin on work wear suiting.

Tailored jackets, mixed with mid-length skirts and sheer dresses, featuring strips of silk fabrics that tapered off the hemlines like seaweed swaying back and forth on the ocean floor with the roll of the tide.

Dazzling silver and ice blue sequins flashed on glamorous mini dresses and jackets, embroidered in such a manner as if to look like the tail of a mermaid.

Paris Fashion Week: Lanvin

Power suits and sportswear separates -- there is something oddly familiar about Lanvin's Spring 2012 collection. Creative Director Alber Elbaz unveiled a return to comfort in fashion for spring.

Slouchy pants mixed with strong shouldered jackets, while oversized tuxedo vests topped loose flow-y track pants bringing a sense of contrast to the collection.

Feminine shapes paraded down the runway in a mysterious dark color palette of mostly black and charcoal. Elbaz managed to sprinkle in elements of traditional spring hues including an assortment of Easter candy colored draped silk and sheer dresses in dusty pink, pistachio, beige and teal.

High-waisted pencil skirts with sharp cuts, gently structured blouses, and exaggerated organza tees paired together to create modern, flirtatious ladylike looks.

Albez added a touch of elegance to the collection with dresses featuring coiled jeweled snakes that slithered up the side of the body and wrapped around the collar.

Paris Fashion Week: Balmain

All was not quiet on the Balmain front during the presentation of the design house's Spring 2012 collection. Olivier Rousteing, who took the reigns in March, when Christophe Decarnin left due to health problems, did not stray from the brand's rock n roll roots set forth by Decarnin. Rousteing took inspiration from the glitz of Las Vegas casinos and American tailor, Nudie Cohn who created stage costumes for country-and-western performers in the 60s.

This collection is what one could describe as "the matador meets the rhinestone cowboy."

Leather jackets, mini dresses and wide leg pants beautifully adorned with gold studs and fringe ambled down the runway.

Sweeping duster-like leather skirts and high waisted pants with bold belt buckles combined with denim button-up blouses infused with crystal detailing.

Elaborate embroideries and rich metallics spun on sexy and shapley silhouettes; it's what Balmain does best.

Milan Fashion Week: Versace

Donatella sold seashells down by the sea shore . . .

The Spring 2012 collection from Versace is a glamorous underwater seduction, full of patterns featuring sea creatures painted on pastel colors.

In true Versace fashion, there was plenty of sex appeal and skin, mixing fitted pencil skirts with revealing corset tops in the show. Tailored mini shorts were paired with belling-baring bandeaux, topped with structured jackets.

Models sauntered down the runway in sexy evening gowns with high slits and shoulder baring cocktail dresses in flowing fabrics. The gowns took cues from mermaids themselves--fishtail gowns adorned with crystal beading in soft shades of Aegean blue, sea-foam green and white.

Gold studs and exposed zippers wrapped around everything including the clothing, bags and bracelets, adding a hard edge to the elegant collection.
