Vera Wang

New York Fashion Week Spring 2013 RTW: Vera Wang

The goddess of New York femininity stays true to her soft roots in her latest Spring collection. Like many other designers this season, extreme, bold colors seem to be the bond that holds the collection together. Reemerging this season with Vera Wang is the trend of lace and embroidered pieces, a staple for the designer that loves anything romantic and delicate.

With Vera Wang, her clothes generally seem to take their shape with interesting forms and style lines. When this isn't the case, they tend to remain strikingly simple, allowing the fabrication to convey the feeling behind the piece. Amidst the spectrum of colors displayed in the show, is an electric yellow dress, free of complex engineering or patternmaking. The effortless silhouette is transformed into true fashion because of the alluring textile choice, allowing for a sexy, sheer look without coming near tasteless.

Whites and other neutral ensembles break up the flashy color story here and there, continuing their graceful personas. Here, along with a heavily embroidered skirt, is a simple top that is made interesting with a plunging neckline. The neckline is a curious addition, severe in nature, a contrast to the calm and serene flow of the other looks. It is a welcome addition to spice things up.

Finally, I thought it would be a crime to not mention several of these icy blue looks, a color that seems to have been vacant from Spring for quite some time. Notice the classic neckline and the flattering shape of the positioning of shoulders and armholes that takes something standard and transcends it with a gorgeous fabric choice.

Style Icon~ Charlize Theron

When we think about the most glamorous actresses in Hollywood, Charlize Theron tops that list. Award-winning roles in films like Monster, North Country and Young Adult have put Charlize at the top of best dressed lists for years and noted her as a serious fashion force. The South African beauty started her career as a model and her youthful good looks and glamorous demeanor landed her the gig as the face of J'adore Dior fragrance.

On the red carpet, Theron has a tendency to experiment with lust worthy heels and sandals, not to mention showing off her physique with edgier minis and daring necklines and slits. Moreover, the Prometheus star consistently finds balance between utterly sexy and totally sophisticated silhouettes.

Wearing designers like Christian Dior, Stella McCartney, Gucci and Rag & Bone allows the 36-year-old to go from red carpet starlet to casual cool effortlessly. Her off-duty style of tailored jackets paired with skinny denim jeans and go to trendy accessories serves as a fabulous style look book for any fashion forward and classic fashion lover.

Wedding Dress Trends for 2012

Without a doubt, there was one event last year that has had a major impact on the wedding industry: The Royal Wedding.

This event caused the wedding industry to sit up and take notice, especially in the wedding gown business.

Because of this single event, wedding gowns have gone through a complete metamorphosis to include sleeves, texture, and even colors.

Textures can be anything from embroidery and lace to designs made out of feathers or fur. All of these components are things that allow the bride to express her personality through her gown. Some brides are very traditional and conservative whereas some know they want to make a statement.

These elements can be used to personalize a dress to the bride's taste as well as make it blend in with her theme.

Vera Wang has taken the lead with supplying the wedding industry with lots of color, including the notorious black wedding dresses. As for textures, Monique Lhuillier seems to be in the forefront with the incorporation of lace, chiffon, silk organza and tulle creating gorgeous lines.

Sleeves are also a big hit this year. Sleeves are versatile and can be worn during the wedding for a more traditional feel, and then removed for the reception, giving the bride a more edgy, fun look. Jackets and boleros can also give the feel of sleeves but provide the versatility that brides are looking for, allowing for a wardrobe change to party the night away. Both options give a bride the added comfort of knowing that her shoulders, back and arms aren't exposed.

New York Fashion Week: Vera Wang

Vera Wang started her Tuesday show off with a clean slate -- icy whites on the runway doused in chiffon and short hemlines. Vera Wang's keen eye on proportion is what makes her collections so enchanting. Her Spring 2012 collection was no different. The bottoms ranged from super short to flowing maxi lengths, some use of "mullet" type dresses and skirts scattered throughout.

Another interesting theme was the constant use of a specific detail on a fabrication -- a circular mesh of what appears to be either eyelet or burnout dots swirling.
As the collection continued, she delved deeper into bright colors, particularly a bursting lemon, which seems to be a popular color for the season. These bold colors mashed with wavy tribal prints is sure to get your mouth watering. Take a look at some of the highlights from the show:

Whirling Maxi-length chiffon skirt, waist-clamped blouse

White, asymmetrical dress, paired with shorts beneath

Introduction to yellow, tribal "mullet" skirt

Striped pants, belted blouse, edge-bound cover-up

Aquamarine, chiffon/burnout skirt, shorts beneath

Intense cobalt paired with striking prints and chiffon

The collection displayed a wide range of color, cut, length, and wearability options that will make this another successful collection for the designer. Thoughts?
